Understanding Bail. What you need to know.

First things first. What is bail? When you or your loved one is arrested in Minneapolis, the Twin Cities or the greater Minnesota area, the judge will set bail. Bail refers to the amount of money that a defendant must pay in order to be released from jail while their criminal case is ongoing. The bail amount is primarily determined by two factors: (1) whether the defendant poses a danger to the community and (2) the likelihood of the defendant appearing in court. Option 1: Pay the Full Bail Amount:

You can pay the entire bail amount set by the judge. For example, if you are charged with a DUI in St. Paul and the bail is set at $12,000, you can pay the full amount to secure release. Once your court case is resolved and you have attended all court appearances, this money will be returned to you, minus any fines and fees,
